Midfielder Set for Manchester United Exit?

Manchester United's 24 year-old Irish midfielder, Darron Gibson may be heading for the Old Trafford exit this winter, with Everton closely linked with the player who has recently been dropped and fined by the United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson for going out to dinner with Wayne Rooney and Jonny Evans against Ferguson's wishes and being deemed unfit to participate in training.

The player was apparently "fuming" and "aggrieved" at the decision to drop him as he does not feel his actions warranted the punishment he was given, and he missed a game which he was likely to have started, against Blackburn.

Gibson rarely starts a Premier League game, and has only appeared in one this season, which is doing no favours to his chances of getting into the Ireland first team for Euro 2012 this year.

First team football is what Gibson requires to be sure of a place in his national side, coached by Giovanni Trapattoni, and as the interest from other clubs grow, it seems likely that a move away is possible.

Everton, who lost their most established central midfielder in Mikel Arteta to Arsenal last summer, are reportedly chasing Darron Gibson, yet it is rumoured that Ferguson will only sell if he has a replacement lined up.

After losing to Blackburn on new years eve, Sir Alex Ferguson commented on the possible transfer activity involving his club, and hinted that a few players could be set to leave on loan. He said: "I'd like to get one or two on loan, particularly the young strikers but, at the moment, we don't need to do anything and don't need to make a decision."

We know Federico Macheda, United's Italian striker, has left for QPR on loan, and considering Everton's lack of transfer funds, do not be surprised if United allow Darron Gibson to leave for regular first team football for the second half of the season with Everton.
